Discover the official list of recently promoted teachers this year

Every summer, thousands of primary and secondary school teachers learn that they are being promoted to the hors classe grade. The 2026 campaign is no exception, with the publication of collective orders for registration on the advancement table. The promotion rate this year reaches 23% of those eligible for promotion, compared to 18% in 2022, indicating a significant acceleration in access to this grade.

Have you checked I-Prof or your academic messaging without finding your name? Before jumping to conclusions, it is essential to understand how the list is constructed, what reclassification concretely means, and what changes in daily remuneration.

Promotion Rate hors classe 2026: an upward trend over four years

The ratio of promoted to eligible determines the number of positions available each year. In 2022, it was set at 18%. It has steadily increased to 23% of those eligible for promotion in 2026. This rise is not trivial: according to SNES-FSU Hauts-de-France, it reduces the waiting time for moving to hors classe by more than a year compared to the previous situation.

The CFDT Créteil estimates that this ministerial policy has allowed for the promotion of approximately 15,000 additional colleagues in three years compared to the previous pace. Thus, the 2026 list is part of a structural widening movement, not an isolated gesture.

Grading and career meetings: what really matters in ranking

The promotion grading is based on several components. The third career meeting, held at the 9th step of the normal class, serves as the main lever. The rector’s assessment that follows largely determines the position in the ranking.

Why does this meeting count so much? Because the rector’s final assessment synthesizes the opinions of the inspector and the head of the establishment (in secondary education). It translates into four levels: “to be consolidated,” “satisfactory,” “very satisfactory,” or “excellent.” An “excellent” opinion almost systematically places the agent in the promoted contingent, while a “satisfactory” opinion often requires several years of waiting.

Criteria for tiebreaking in case of equality

When two colleagues receive the same score, seniority in the corps serves as a tiebreaking criterion. Seniority in position or the functions performed (priority education, school management) may also be taken into account depending on the academies.

  • The rector’s assessment after the 3rd career meeting weighs most heavily in the overall grading.
  • Seniority at the terminal step of the normal class adds points each year, favoring patient colleagues.
  • Paths in priority education or missions as academic trainers are sometimes valued in the local grading.

Reclassification after promotion: step and index at the start of the school year

Once promoted, the teacher is reclassified in the hors classe grid on September 1st. The new step depends on the step held in the normal class and the seniority acquired in that step. It is not a simple automatic move to the next step.

Let’s take a concrete example. A primary school teacher at the 9th step of the normal class with more than two years of seniority will be reclassified to the 2nd step of the hors classe, with seniority beyond two years being retained. A colleague at the 10th step with less than two years and six months of seniority will move to the 3rd step, retaining their seniority.

Impact on monthly remuneration

The index gain varies according to the reclassification step. For a teacher reclassified from the 10th step of the normal class (index 634) to the 4th step hors classe (index 710), the difference represents 76 index points. Translated into gross salary, with each index point worth a few euros, the monthly revaluation is tangible from the September pay slip.

The reclassification table published by the unions details each correspondence:

  • 9th step normal class (more than 2 years of seniority) to 2nd step hors classe, index changing from 595 to 629.
  • 10th step (less than 2 years 6 months) to 3rd step hors classe, index changing from 634 to 673.
  • 10th step (more than 2 years 6 months) to 4th step hors classe, index changing from 634 to 710.

Check your result and contest a lack of promotion

Individual results are accessible on I-Prof, the digital career management space of the Ministry of National Education. The site education.gouv.fr also publishes promotion orders for each corps (certified, aggregated, EPS teachers, CPE, PsyEN). The academies distribute their own local lists, often relayed by departmental union sections.

Are you not on the list despite a score you consider sufficient? The first step is to check the rector’s assessment recorded on your career meeting report. An assessment lower than “very satisfactory” may explain a ranking too low to enter the promoted contingent.

If a material error is found (miscalculated seniority, career meeting not taken into account), a gracious appeal to the rectorate remains possible. Trade union organizations can assist in this process by verifying the grading applied and comparing it with the effective promotion thresholds in the academy.

The next promotion campaign will be launched in the following spring, with a new ratio that could still evolve. Colleagues not promoted this year retain their seniority points, which will be added to the grading of the next campaign. Each year of waiting mechanically increases the chances of appearing on the next list.
